Amplitude check is a tool for deciding whether a device is suitable to measure throughout the next calibration period without interruption despite continuing accumulation of dirt. The dirt on the flow sensors reduces the ultrasonic signal amplitude over time. This amplitude reduction is compensated for by controlled amplification in the meter. If the amplification is above a certain threshold, the device will output a F0 prewarning in the data telegrams (see Section 5.4) to indicate that action must be taken.

Maintenance/Amplitude check and then runs automatically. However, certain volume measuring units include a query for the mounting length. The amplitude check calls up test mode volume, reads the Eb optional telegram, and may change the measurement parameters although it does reset them to their original values at the end. The amplitude check is therefore a function that does not alter the measurement characteristics.
Before you can perform an amplitude check, the meter must have a volume measuring unit filled with water without bubbles and complete desalinated, the meter must not display F0 in Nb, Pb-V, or Pb-Q, and flow simulation (see Section 10.1) must not be active. If this is not the case, the amplitude check will return an error message.
